Ignition Coils can still be sourced in the US but the majority are manufactured overseas, especially the oil filled coils that are considered a hazardous material in the US. Over the decades, coils have consolidated into generic categories to service their respective use types. For instance, 6 volt for agriculture, 12 volt for use with an external resistor (ballast resistor) for older vintage and classic automobiles, 12 volt with internal resistors for the more "modern" classic cars, and then the OE and performance variants. In almost all cases these coils can replace specific parts numbers that are no longer available due to low volume demand. However, the difference is usually size and bracketry that can be overcome with placement modifications.
